Carowinds in Charlotte, US, has debuted its giant new waterpark to the public, with Carolina Harbor now the largest of its kind in both North and South Carolina.
The US$50m (€45m, £34m) 110,000sq m (1.1 million sq ft) expansion, which absorbs the existing Boomerang Bay, has doubled the number of slides, also adding thrill rides and modernised amenities.
Opened on 21 May, entry to the waterpark – supplied by Neuman Group and WhiteWater West – is included in Carowinds general admission, though there is a new entrance catering to waterpark-only visitors.
Thrill rides are centred around a six-story slide tower, which includes a vertical drop trap-door slide and a chute slide with 360-degree turns.
An interactive children’s play area is also included, featuring a 423-gallon tipping bucket and more than 80 different elements. A 27,000sq ft (2,500sq m) wave pool has also been added, while new amenities include a bar and restaurant, volleyball courts, upgraded changing facilities and 30 new cabanas.
