Bioethics exhibit opens at Singapore Science Centre
POSTED 04 Aug 2010 . BY Luke Tuchscherer
A new exhibition focused on scientific ethics has launched at the Singapore Science Centre.

The Bioethics Exhibition aims to highlight the nature of bioethical issues through the interactive exhibits within the 'Genome' and 'Living with Viruses' exhibitions.  Visitors are encouraged to explore the issues related to organ transplantation, genetic testing, stem cell therapy and cloning as they interact with the exhibits.

The introduction area introduces the nature of bioethics through the interaction of various characters presented in three different scenarios (through cases involving kidney transplantation, stem cell therapy and genetic testing). To support the cases with more information, an interactive touch-screen station is also displayed for visitors to interact with.

Within the Genome exhibition, issues pertaining to genetic testing, stem cells, cloning, and GMOs [genetically modified organisms] are raised for visitors to consider and discuss. Issues pertaining to research on animal and human cloning are discussed through an animated conversation between Dolly, the famous cloned sheep and a 'visual clone' of the visitor.

The Living With Viruses exhibition aims to inform visitors of the issues relating to social responsibility, with regards to priority treatment and infection control during an event of an outbreak.
