A team for the BBC series
Timewatch has begun the first excavation inside the ring at Stonehenge for more than forty years.
The two-week dig will try to establish the precise dating for the creation of the World Heritage Site.
Researchers believe the famous rocks, which were transported from Wales in around 3100BC, could hold the secret to the real purpose of Stonehenge.
The study has been funded by the BBC and the results will be broadcast in a special episode of Timewatch later this year.
