BALPPA, the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions, has welcomed news that the Labour Party intends to include measures to curb compensation culture in its next election manifesto.
BALPPA has been campaigning for almost two years for the introduction of legislation to bring compensation claiming under control.
Stephen Byers MP is expected to play a leading part in producing the manifesto.
Colin Dawson, chief executive of BALPPA, said: “Stephen Byers is one of many of the politicians we have contacted while we have been vigorously pursuing this issue on behalf of our members.
“He has illustrated in speeches the huge financial penalty many organisations face under the present insufficiently controlled activities of the ‘no win, no fee’ promoters.”
BALPPA has also welcomed the news that shadow secretary of state for culture, Julie Kirkbride, has announced her support for the campaign.
Dawson said: “If both parties now recognise the extent of the problem we can hope that suitable action will now follow which produces relief from this damaging culture.”
