The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia, has unveiled its latest acquisition – a set of Asian galleries.
Designed by Sydney-based architect, Richard Johnson, these appear to float in a white glass and steel pavilion above the existing development.
The extra 720sq m offers a core space for temporary exhibitions, as well as allowing more space for the permanent collection. The development will provide a bigger showcase for the diversity of Asian art and culture – contemporary and traditional.
As well as the new Asian galleries, this major building project includes alterations to the original Asian gallery, as well as new conservation studios, a café, restaurant and a dedicated function area with harbour views. Details: www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au
