The Australian government has announced a funding package of nearly AUS$8m (£3.4m, 5m euro, US$6m) to support 53 tourism developments throughout the country.
Grants include AUS$100,000 (£43,000, 63,000 euro, US$74,000) for the development of a garden and international display in Canberra’s Cockington Green Gardens; AUS$100,000 for a luxury wilderness camp in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania and AUS$315,000 (£135,000, 198,000 euro, US$232,000) to further develop the Great Ocean Road between Melbourne and Adelaide into one of the country’s premier drive touring routes.
The package represents the second round of funding delivered through the government’s AUS$31m (£13m, 19.5m euro, US$23M) Australian Tourism Development Program.
Minister for small business and tourism, Fran Bailey, said the funding demonstrated the government’s commitment to supporting innovative tourism projects to help stimulate both domestic and international tourism.
