Culture Minister David Lammy has launched a new data-sharing partnership between the 24 Hour Museum and VisitBritain, aimed at increasing access for visitors to UK museums and galleries.
The agreement enables VisitBritain to harvest the 24 Hour Museum’s database of galleries, museums and heritage attractions and incorporate it into any one of the 46 VisitBritain websites, used by more than 15 million people worldwide.
Launching the partnership, David Lammy said: “People don’t plan their holidays in a separate box to thinking about things they want to do and see. This new link-up will make it easier for visitors to Britain and visitors in Britain to get the most out of their trip. It means that those with a specialist cultural or historical interest can find what they want more easily.”
The 24 Hour Museum is funded by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) to promote the UK’s museums and galleries. It currently has 3,700 institutions registered on its database with up to 2,000 events listed at any one time. UK venues are able to input their own data and update it as often as they like.
