One in four of all American visitors to Scotland believe that they will be able to go on a haggis hunt, according to a recent joint survey conducted by a US tourism association website and haggis processor Hall’s.
The survey questioned 1,000 US tourists and also found that a third believed that a haggis is a real animal.
One fifth of respondents believed Scotland was an English county.
Hall’s brand manager, Anna Finlay, said: “It’s amazing in this day and age that the myth of the haggis roaming the glens continues to resonate with overseas visitors.”
A spokesperson for VisitScotland added: “There are many myths surrounding Scotland’s supposed creatures and, whether visitors believe in them or not, we welcome the interest they generate for Scotland.” Details: www.gcfg.com
