Meraki Wellness, a new standalone 16,000sq ft wellness destination, will debut in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, in Q2.

It will have a hydrotherapy bathing circuit called the Hydrotherapy Odyssey, a longevity and wellness screening service and a range of holistic treatments designed to guide guests towards a “happier and healthier mind, body and soul.”

Co-founders, husband and wife, Peter and Shula Clarke, told Spa Business about the features and facilities at the luxury wellness destination.

Peter Clarke said: “Meraki Wellness is poised to elevate the wellness landscape in the Cayman Islands and beyond. We strive to be imaginative and innovative, seeing things differently in order to refine and inspire.”

Shula Clarke said: “This is an exciting next chapter of mindful wellbeing and there is no better location for our first Meraki Wellness than an island known for its Cayman Kindness.”

The location has four private guest suites for accommodation, only available by invitation.

Guests of Meraki Wellness, however, have access to all the facilities at the neighbouring luxury beachfront residential development called The Watermark. The amenities include a private beach, swimming pools, an indoor theatre, restaurants and the owners’ lounge.

The spa has been created in collaboration with Rafael Amachastegui of RAD Architects Inc, with consultancy by Design for Leisure, to provide a fluid, uninterrupted guest journey.

Shula Clarke said: “Movement through the space is intuitive and calming, with each transition thoughtfully considered to support emotional ease and physical restoration. The architecture prioritises flow, privacy and a sense of quiet luxury.”

Technology by Spanish company Zonair3D also filters the air throughout the property, removing pollutants, allergens and bacteria. The system is said to create an atmosphere of 99.995 per cent pure air.

Wellness facilities

Meraki Wellness has eight treatment suites. Among these there is one single luxury signature suite and two twin luxury signature suites. These each feature private bathing rituals, luxury steam showers and dedicated relaxation areas for immersive and extended experiences.

The treatment rooms have been equipped by Gharieni Group, with MO1 Evo series spa treatment beds and matching furniture. Bespoke spa uniforms have been supplied by Fashionizer Spa.

The spa will offer a longevity and wellness screening to guests, which comprises a non-invasive assessment. Peter Clarke said the evaluation uses advanced biometric technology to provide gentle guidance for improved wellbeing.

In terms of relaxation areas, Meraki Wellness will have a pre-treatment Wellness Lounge and a separate post-ritual area called the Quiet Lounge. There will also be a Garden Lounge for light refreshments from the wellness centre’s flexitarian spa menu. A separate Members’ Lounge will offer a private setting for guests to relax in. A separate Event Lounge can be booked for private bespoke events.

A 2,500sq ft mineral pool, enriched with Himalayan salt is the centrepiece to the spa. It features 33,986 handmade tiles in a design by Ceramica Suro. The pool has hydro-jets and champagne benches, which Shula Clarke says support circulation and recovery. Music and lighting have been curated in this space to create a restorative and meditative atmosphere.

 Hydrotherapy Odyssey

Design for Leisure's US$4 million (€3.7 million, £3.2 million) contract entailed the design, installation and finishes for wet facilities throughout the property. This includes the Hydrotherapy Odyssey, which features seven hydrotherapy experiences:

  • A panoramic sauna by KLAFS, which the property says is the largest in the Caribbean.
  • Aquamoon showers, sensory experience showers that combine rainfall-style cleansing with a soft lighting display by Dornbracht.
  • A mosaic-lined aromatic caldarium for gentle heat
  • A frigidarium for a crisp cooling experience
  • A tepidarium for warm relaxation
  • Experience showers by Aquaform designed to mimic gentle rainfall or invigorating stormy precipitation.
  • A snow room by TechnoAlpin Indoor, which the property says is the first in the Caribbean.

The aromatic caldarium experiences were created in collaboration with Lux Elements.

The bathing circuit is “designed to balance heat and cold, stillness and movement,” said Peter Clarke.

Design for Leisure also created the spa's hammam for authentic cleansing and massage rituals – which is decorated with 1,000 sheets of 22 carat gold leaf that were applied to the ceiling by hand.

Other facilities

Meraki Wellness has a Blowdry Lounge for hair appointments and a Butterfly Room for hand and foot rituals. The property has an exclusive partnership with PersoNAILity UK, a brand by celebrated manicurist Jenni Draper.

Guests are encouraged to make a wish and set an intention for their wellness journey while in the Meraki Wellness Boutique Emporium under a light installation of translucent glass spheres called The Wish. The retail boutique will sell exclusive jewellery and apparel by brands such as Ibeliv, Kuu, Frescobol Carioca and Edeniste.

The spa has a Plant and Tonic Wellness Café too.

In terms of fitness, there is a Fitness Lounge, movement studio and a private training studio – complete with Technogym equipment.

Memberships

Meraki Wellness will offer four tiers of membership programmes: Founder, Emerald, Jade, and bespoke Corporate. Prices start from US$5,000 to US$7,000 (€4,500–€6,300, £3,900–£5,500).
