Lagg Awarded Distillery of the Year
February 2024
With Spring fast on the horizon, now is a great time to forward plan a visit to Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran, especially as it was awarded ‘Distillery of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Branding’ at the prestigious Scottish Whisky awards 2023 which took place at the end of last year.
Lochranza Distillery, their sister distillery also on The Isle of Arran picked up the Gold award in ‘Best Under 12 non peated’ for the Arran Single Malt 10 Year Old. The Scottish Whisky awards is an independent awards programme honouring whisky distilling in Scotland. The national celebration of Scottish whisky is the only drinks competition in the world dedicated solely to the Scotch whisky business as it enters its fifth annual competition. An independent judging panel, made up of a diverse group of professionals from Scotland, the UK, and beyond assessed entries in both the taste competition and the business competition. Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran recently released the second edition of their core range Single Malts - The LAGG Single Malt Corriecravie Edition. Following the huge success of their flagship Single Malt - The Kilmory Edition which launched in June last year from the forward-thinking island distiller, which opened its doors in 2019.
Lagg Distillery Manager Graham Omand comments on their award success: “We as a team are absolutely delighted to be honoured with ‘Distillery of the Year’ and also ‘Excellence in Branding’ at the prestigious Scottish Whisky Awards. We are incredibly proud of the success of both of our Core Range Single Malts which launched this year, and this is the perfect celebration to end 2023. We look forward to our continued success and seeing what the rest of 2024 brings.”
Lagg Distillery is the sister of independently owned Lochranza Distillery which was established at the north end of the island in 1995 and produce Arran Single Malt. The building of the new distillery and its magnificent visitor centre was completed in 2019, where they opened their doors for the very first time to customers and award nominations alike. The architects have designed a spectacular building that echoes the contours of Arran as you’d see it from Ailsa Craig and celebrates the unique geography of the surrounding environment by using dramatic roofs which are covered by a sedum blanket of seasonal plants. Lagg Distillery offers a fantastic range of tastings, tours and dining options for visitors and locals alike, as well as their gift shop where you can purchase the new LAGG Single Malts and a range of their exclusive whiskies. The whisky bar on the upper level in the Visitor Experience is the perfect place to relax and take in the panoramic views with whisky flights, chocolate pairings and delicious grazing boards.
