Trustees of the Museums Association (MA) have called for a new framework to help Arts Council England (ACE) to determine which regional museums should receive funding.

MA head of policy and communications Maurice Davies said: "The board would like the MA to devise a framework that can help ACE make its overall decision.

"We are very much hoping to work closely with ACE on developing the framework, so that we and they can learn from each other throughout the process."

It is hoped that the framework would be put in place to assist ACE following an application process, a call for which is expected to be launched this summer.
