New York's biggest waterpark resort opens

Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark – a new luxury family resort in the Catskills, outside New York City – has opened its doors.

Based in Monticello, NY, Kartrite has the state's biggest waterpark at 80,000sq ft (24,384sq m), with 10 waterslides supplied by the aquatic development group, as well as Flowrider wave technology and the Affinity Springs spa.

Overlooking the waterpark, a decking area takes advantage of the warm indoor climate with a living plant wall, which is part of an elevated "cabana oasis" – a space with 15 deluxe cabanas available for rental. Inside the cabanas, guests can find lounge chairs and towels, high-definition televisions, cooling fans and a mini-fridge stocked with healthy snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

The indoor attraction boasts an energy-efficient Texlon transparent roofing system. This allows sunlight into the complex, which is maintained at a temperature of 30ºC year-round.

There are arcade games in the waterpark's Playopolis area, as well as an LED-lit climbing wall, rope obstacle course, mini bowling and laser tag area. The wider resort also features a fitness centre and spa. Eight themed bars and restaurants give guests options for dining.

The resort features more than 320 suite accommodations and has more than 11,000sq ft (3,352sq m) of function space, with dedicated planners helping to make the most of events and celebrations.
