A floating art museum dedicated to urban art, including graffiti and street art, has docked on the River Seine in Paris at the foot of the Invalides Bridge.

Called Fluctuart, the museum will offer free entry to visitors all year round when it opens in Q2 2019 and will showcase work from street artists of all kinds, including newcomers, pioneers and world-famous star artists.

Fluctuart won a 2017 competition called Reinvent the Seine – a call by Paris officials for projects aimed at reinvigorating the river.

The floating museum was designed by architects Seine Design and built in less than two years in Dieppe, a port town in the north of the country.

Food and drink events, concerts and private parties are being planned for the upper terrace, which has panoramic views. The rooftop, covered by a marquise, will be open all year round.

"Paris is the world’s capital for urban art," said Nicolas Laugero Laserre, artistic director and one of the founders of the project.

"Here, Shepard Fairey performs his biggest works and Banksy is never far either. The number of artists, projects, auctions and specialized galleries in Paris is truly unique.

"We believe in the idea of art for all. The quest for an art accessible to all is inscribed in the movement's DNA, with committed artists who are in tune with their times."
