A new indoor theme park is to open in Shanghai themed on the popular
Naruto anime and manga franchise.
The park, called Naruto World, will be located in the Shanghai New World shopping centre and will stretch to an area of 7,000sq m (75,347sq ft).
It's being overseen by Nelke Planning, a Japanese stage production company that specialises in anime, manga, and game IPs.
Kishimoto’s
Naruto manga was launched in 1999 in the
Weekly Shonen Jump publication – a weekly printed anthology.
That slot ended the in November 2014 and Naruto has sold 140 million printed copies in Japan and 95 million printed copies outside of Japan.
The manga has also led to a number of anime, anime film, original video animation and video game adaptations.
Naruto Shippūden, an anime series and one of those adaptations ended in March 2017 and is being turned into a live-action Hollywood movie by Lionsgate.
