Construction of a new science centre, to be located in China’s Guangdong province, will be completed by November 2007.
Funded by the provincial Chinese government, the 1.9bn yuan RMB (£126m, 189m euro, US$229m) Guangdong Center will serve as a showcase for scientific and technological achievements, featuring a selection of temporary and permanent exhibition halls alongside an IMAX theatre, outdoor exhibition area and international academic exchange.
The centre is expected to attract 2.5 million people a year.
Construction will take place in two phases with a selection of international companies involved with the initial phases – including Germany-based designers Hüttinger, who will design two galleries – while construction will be carried out by local companies. Details: www.huettinger.de
