General Manager

Salary: £70k package
Job location: Sennen, Penzance, UK

The Role
Privately owned, Heritage Great Britain, is looking to appoint an experienced General Manager for the iconic Land's End Landmark attraction and estate in West Cornwall. Your key focus will be operational leadership of the site which covers 100 acres and receives 500,000 visitors a year. It is operated commercially throughout.

You will need to lead and develop the existing team (including multiple department heads) and engage with the local tourism bodies, community and stakeholders for the benefit of the business. You will need to deliver solid financial results as well as maintain and develop a high-quality customer experience.

Salary will reflect the responsibility and seniority of the position, with a package in the £70k range. Relocation support will be given where appropriate.

The Site
The overall landmark site is highly seasonal with different demographics throughout the year, which have different expectations of the experience. The site currently consists of:

• 100 acre landmark estate within AONB
• busy visitor attractions
• numerous catering & retail operations
• a 37 bed 3-star Hotel
• various high-quality self-catering units
• local village public house  

Further capital development plans exist, including further high-quality self-catering accommodation, and the new General Manager will be fully involved in their fulfilment. The overall strategy is for an iconic visitor destination for both day visitors and staying guests.


About You
This position requires previous senior level management within a relevant leisure field such as tourism, visitor attraction, hospitality, catering/retail or multi-unit operation. Key aspects include:

• Strong leadership skills
• Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and multi-task as necessary
• Knowledge of financial reporting, budgets, and forecasting
• Knowledge of marketing, health and safety, and HR
• Engaging personality with the ability to offer solutions and improvements
• Possess strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Must be flexible to work shifts outside normal business hours, will include some weekends, and holidays
• Experience of a seasonal environment is favourable but not essential
