Visitor Experience Officer
National Trust
Salary: £19,349 pa
Job location: Greater Manchester, UK
Closing date: 21 May 2018
Fixed Term f/t (37.5 hrs pw to 10/03/19)

Summary
Are you a committed, reliable, and proactive operator who has a background in delivering exceptional service to visitors? We’d love you to bring your skills to the biggest conservation charity in Europe. With engaging stories to tell, there’s always something to share with our visitors, and it will be your job to make sure we’re doing that all year round. As a member of the Visitor Experience team you'll work, on average, one weekend in three, together with a reasonable proportion of bank holidays, acting as Duty Manager on all your working days.

What it's like to work here
Dunham Massey is a 3,000-acre estate situated approximately 10 miles south of central Manchester and three miles south of Altrincham. Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, gave it to the National Trust in 1976 and today it attracts over 500,000 visitors a year. This elegant Georgian mansion, set within a magnificent 300 acre deer park and including one of Britain’s finest winter gardens, is a very popular visitor attraction with over 100 staff. The Visitor Centre, which includes our visitor reception, shop, café and toilets, has a strong commercial focus and a fast-paced environment. It’s the main point of contact for many of our visitors and presents us with an opportunity to deliver consistently high standards of welcome and service. Within the park walls there is also a restaurant and ice cream parlour. On the wider estate, there are farms, 100 cottages, a golf course and an award winning housing development. The house, garden and parkland hide many layers of history and have many stories to tell.

What you'll be doing
As a Visitor Experience Officer, you’ll be based at and responsible for the effective operation of the Visitor Centre, delivering great service and excellent presentation standards through liaison with the property maintenance team and maintaining good relationships with suppliers. You’ll be the vital link between the property teams and a key point of contact for escalation of emergency issues and visitor queries. You’ll also need to maintain a first aid qualification and provide cover for our staff, volunteers and visitors in accordance with property procedures. Working within the Visitor Experience Team, you’ll support the delivery of interpretation that can teach, move and inspire our visitors.

Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. Working with our Spirit of Place, you’ll work with the property teams to link everything we do back to our cause and the on-going work we do. You’ll champion compliance with relevant national systems and procedures, promoting awareness of Health & Safety to ensure the safe and cost effective operation of the Visitor Centre and equipment at all times. You’ll manage and lead the team of facilities cleaners to deliver a consistently high standard of site presentation and a great Dunham welcome to all our visitors.

As a champion of exceptional visitor experiences, you’ll join a high performing team and will lead on the duty management rota. You’ll be the property lead for group bookings, working with colleagues to promote group visits, providing all required information to groups and administering bookings to an agreed system. Operationally you’ll work with colleagues to ensure that the visiting groups receive a great welcome and have a very enjoyable visit to Dunham Massey.

You’ll also act as volunteer manager for a team of volunteers, recruiting, supervising and supporting them in their various roles.
