English Heritage Angel Awards 2012 open
BY Pete Hayman

English Heritage has opened up entries and nominations for this year's Angel Awards in a bid to recognise the work of local individuals and groups in preserving their local heritage.

The English Heritage Angel Awards were first established by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber last year, with the winners announced at a gala ceremony at London's Palace Theatre.

Following the success of the inaugural event, English Heritage said the rescue of Grade II-listed properties are now eligible alongside those of Grade I and II*-listed projects.

Schemes involving locations not previously on the Heritage At Risk register are also accepted for the first time, although the sites still need to have been "significantly" at risk.

Four projects will be shortlisted in each of the four categories by a panel chaired by Lord Lloyd Webber and including English Heritage chief executive Simon Thurley.
