Adventure World announces $12m Abyss roller coaster
POSTED 17 Sep 2013 . BY Chris Dodd
Abyss will feature a 10-storey high vertical lift and a drop of over 100 feet
Australian theme park Adventure World has announced details of its new roller coaster, the $12m (£7.5m, €8.9m) underworld-themed Abyss, which is planned to open in November 2013.

The new ride will account for the single largest investment the park has made since it launched in 1982 and will feature a 10-storey high vertical lift, a drop of over 100 feet and high-intensity G-Force turns, which offer thrusts greater than those experienced during the launch of a space shuttle.

The roller coaster is custom-built by German manufacturer Gerstlauer and will also include four inversions through daylight, which are accompanied by a section where visitors travel through complete darkness.

Other features of the 630-metre coaster include a zero gravity roll, a rollover loop, cobra roll and an inline loop.

“We think the name reflects what is going to be a white-knuckle ride filled with trepidation of the unknown, the likes of which visitors to any theme park in Australia won't have experienced,” said Adventure World CEO, Mark Shaw.

The park in Perth is currently offering visitors the chance to be the first to ride the coaster at its VIP and media event by playing an online game, which will also provide players with a story related to the ride’s druid-themed history.
