Plans for an AU$100m (US$89.5, €69.3m, £54.3m) cable car system stretching 9km (5.6m) – dubbed the Gold Coast Skyride – have been revealed by Queensland authorities.
To be located between Neranwood and Springbrook, the project will be overseen by the State Government with input from the Gold Coast City Council.
“Gold Coast Skyride is the most exciting tourism infrastructure project mooted for South East Queensland in years and the people behind it are serious,” said Gold Coast Skyride CEO, Terry Moore.
“I have seen how Cairns works and I have also seen the impact of its construction in my role with the council up there and I can say with 100 per cent accuracy that there are no negatives from something like this.
“Gold Coast Skyride is totally achievable and we are committed to see it delivered before the Commonwealth Games in 2018.”
